About the Department

Hepatology is a niche in the field of Gastroenterology (GI). Our department offers specialized care for numerous liver diseases (acute hepatitis, acute liver failure, and late-stage liver disease) in this rapidly evolving space.

Nearly 80% of the referrals to our GI unit are of patients with liver diseases. Furthermore, two-thirds of admissions in our unit are for liver disease, especially cirrhosis liver and its complications. We provide focused care to patients with liver disease, using our expertise to manage cases with compassion.

High alcohol consumption is a common cause of various chronic liver diseases. Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, and Fatty Liver Disease are the other causes for such conditions that we treat here. Patients with liver diseases may face lethal cirrhosis-related complications, requiring swift attention and care.

Patients with liver disease are at risk of being hemodynamically unstable. Such patients require round-the-clock intensive care management. At GI, we keep a keen eye on patients to ensure quick response, timely intervention, and care. We offer liver transplants, which is a life-changing cure for patients.

Patients with liver cancer have options to seek radiological intervention, resection of involved segments, or liver transplant based on the stage of cancer.

Our treatment methods are vast, ensuring that all patients receive focused care for the best chance at recovery.

Common Liver diseases, requiring specialist attention:

  1. Paediatric Liver disease (especially metabolic liver disease and cholestatic jaundice)
  2. Acute Liver Failure
  3. Acute-on-chronic Liver failure
  4. Cirrhosis liver with its associated complications (bleed, fluid accumulation, kidney dysfunction, altered sensorium)
  5. Prolonged jaundice
  6. Infiltrative disorders of the Liver
  7. Hepatocellular carcinoma
  8. Secondaries in Liver
  9. Metabolic liver disease like Wilson Disease
  10. Diabetes and liver-related complication
