About the Department

Paediatric Urology deals with surgical problems of kidneys, bladder and genitalia in children. Often these problems can be detected antenatally and the parents may need counselling. Some of the problems require urgent treatment immediately after birth. It is a complex field and needs specialist experience to decide when surgery is required and when it can be avoided.
Paediatric Urology was established in SRMC in the year 2003. Over the past 16 years the department has grown and have dealt with many complex conditions for patients in India and abroad.

Pediatric Urology Department offers state of the art laparoscopic, endoscopic and minimally invasive treatment for children with various urological problems. Key areas include laparoscopic surgery for pelvi ureteric junction obstruction (PUJO), vesico ureteric reflux (VUR), duplication anomalies, cysoscopic treatment for posterior urethral valves, ureterocele, STING procedure etc. In addition major urological reconstructions like episopadias, hypospadias, exstrophy repair, bladder augmentation etc. The department is highly focussed on clinical and advanced labarotory research related to pediatric urology. Research focus areas include: Pathological markers in PUJO, fetal ureter, fetal urethra pathology, urinary biomarkers in PUJO, pathological factors in hypospadias etc.
