ABOUT OUR TELEMEDICINE

Telemedicine is a practice of medicine over distance through telecommunication gadgets. By using this facility thousands of patients are getting benefited every day by avoiding unnecessary travel, saving time & best treatment at proper time. 

Sri Ramachandra Institute has been practicing telemedicine for more than 23 years, which is one of the pioneers in Telemedicine activities in the country where taken many prestigious telemedicine projects at national & international level. One of the Fore-runners in Telemedicine arena in the country. 

Crossed various mile-stones in Telemedicine arena both for patient’s health care as well as for continuing medical education program.

Many major medical institutions in India have been connected with SRMC through Telemedicine centre for exchanging CME programs

The first Pan-Asian Neuro Conference was conducted in March 2001 which was the first of its kind in INDIA connecting 4 countries - JAPAN, Hong Kong, Singapore & India-SRMC, Chennai.

The first Pan-Asian Live Neuro Tele-conference connecting 4 countries Singapore, Japan, HongKong in Mar-2001 which was first time in Indian History, motivated SRMC to start full fledged telemedicine centre & later inaugurated by Hon’ble Minister of Malaysia, Shri Dato Samy Vellu in Mar-2002

Satellite Connectivity by ISRO

SRMC Partnership with Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) in the year 2001 to serve our Nation. 

SRMC - GBPH – Inauguration

We were chosen as a super specialty hospital to give opinion to the island of Andaman & Nicobar through VSAT (Satellite Connectivity by ISRO) which was inaugurated by then Prime Minister, Shri.ATAL BIHARI VAJPAYEE in the year 2002.

Our prime Telemedicine service is to G. B. Pant Hospital (GBPH), having 550 bedded capacity located in Port Blair, Andaman & Nicobar Island where they do not have super specialty services at that time in 2002.

           Arogya Sudha Project – Rural Support

We started this telemedicine service to support at grass root level in connecting various hamlets in and around Thiruvallur district by using WLL (Wireless) which is minimum bandwidth provided by BSNL. This is tie-up with Anna University through N-Logue Communication. 

          SRMC – ISRO – MSSRF 

Again ISRO had chosen our institute to support various parts of south India for Health care Service. This is also in alliance with ISRO & MSSRF (MS Swaminathan Research Foundation). This project was inaugurated by Honorable Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh in Oct’2004.

          SRMC – ISRO – Sathyabama University

Apart from Tele-health services, we provide community oriented program by using ISRO’s satellite in tie-up with Sathyabama University, this project was inaugurated by Padmashri Dr.Madhavan Nair, then Chairman-ISRO in 2005. Job oriented courses are being conducted in Sathyabama University in connecting various villages for rural development program.


VSAT Connectivity by ISRO in SRMC


Partnership with Indian Space Research Organization in the year 2001 to serve the Nation and since then there was no turning back and today we are proud to say that this institution is able to connect 165 centres in INDIA through VSAT link. As well as we can connect 35 Specialties centres for sharing CME programs and Live Surgeries for academic purpose.


Prime Activity in our Telemedicine

Our prime Telemedicine service is to GB Pant Hospital (GBPH) having 550 bedded capacity located in Port Blair, Andaman & Nicobar island where they do not have superspeciality services like Neurology, Neurosurgery, Cardiology, Cardiac surgery, Nephrology, Urology, Medical & Surgical Gastro Enterology, Plastic Surgery & etc., Some time major trauma cases like Road-Accident, High Risk & Critical Pregnancy cases are also discussed on emergency period through our telemedicine. 

Today I am happy to inform that several lives have been saved by this connectivity where through Real Time telemedicine we had given opinion to the various superspeciality services and other specialities if needed.

SRMC – Mobile Telemedicine

SRMC is in the MAP of Mobile Telemedicine connectivity. ISRO has given us the Antenna for VSAT connectivity. This serves the need of many people especially in the rural areas. This was started with Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of TamilNadu and then alliance with Hyundai Motors India Ltd. for Rural Health camp.

Now “Tele-Audiology screening for the children includes Newborn babies”, Project supporting by the ICMR, Govt. of India which is a unique project in the country.  

SRMC Private Telemedicine Network

SRMC Private Telemedicine Network was proudly started in 2005 by acquiring a very powerful server with full PAC System for doing Real time telemedicine.

Pan African e-Network Project

Inauguration of the Pan-African e-Network Project for Telemedicine at SRU

The new “PAN African e-Network project for Telemedicine” has also started from October 2009 (Inaugurated by Mr. N. Ram, Editor-in-Chief, The Hindu group of Journals). Pan African e-Network Project for Telemedicine is one of the biggest Telemedicine project in India ever, this was the brain child of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, when he was the President of India, he announced in Johannesburg that India will support entire African continent both for Education and Medicine. SRMC is one among the 11 super speciality Hospitals in India to connect all 48 member countries of Africa. This was inaugurated in Oct-2009 by the eminent journalist in India, Shri N. Ram, the Editor-in-Chief, Hindu group of Journals. 540 lectures in CME programs have been conducted to those countries from SRMC-Chennai in 7 years. After Tele-consultations some of the patients came to India, SRMC-Chennai for treatment in Neurosurgery, Cardiology, Orthopaedics through Govt. of India.
