  He is a member of the Hospital Mortality & Morbidity committee and the Patient Safety committee at SRIHER. He plays a crucial roles in ensuring the quality of care and patient outcomes within the hospital setting. Some additional capabilities and responsibilities he has in these roles include Monitoring and Reviewing Cases, Analyzing Trends, Implementing Quality Improvement Initiatives, Promoting Patient Safety, Collaboration and Communication, Educational Initiatives & Polices Development. Overall, his involvement in these committees signifies a commitment to improving patient care outcomes and ensuring a safe environment for both patients and healthcare providers at SRIHER.

Dr. Shaik Mohammad Shafijan has an impressive and extensive background in Pediatrics and Neonatology. He has a vast Professional experience. Currently he is the Senior Consultant & Associate Professor in Neonatology with over 25 years of clinical experience in Pediatrics. His teaching experience is immense over 22 years.  He is the UG Registrar, Neonatology, SRU. In his Teaching experience spanning 22 years, mentored trainees in  MD Pediatrics and DM Neonatology trainees

Research & publications: He has various Chapters Authored including IMNCI guidelines - identification and risk stratification in a sick neonate; Social Neonatology – Textbook for Postgraduates. Moreover he has authored more than 10 publications in reputed journals

Project: Targeted Oxygenation in the Respiratory care of Premature Infants at Delivery: Effects on Outcome (TORPIDO 30/60). Project Description: The TORPIDO 30/60 Study is a multicentric trial aiming to enroll 1470 premature infants up to 28+6 weeks gestation across multiple continents including Australia, New Zealand, Asia, the Middle-East, Europe, North America, and Latin America. The primary hypothesis of the study is that adjusting initial respiratory care in the delivery room can improve survival without major brain injury. Specifically, it compares two approaches: Initial FiO2 0.6 versus Initial FiO2 0.3. The study then targets oxygen saturation (SpO2) within NRP guidelines at 5 and 10 minutes post-birth and continues this approach until admission to the NICU.

He has conducted significant research projects including: Comparative study on temperature monitoring methods in neonates; Pilot RCT on antibiotic therapy duration in neonatal septicemia using molecular methods. 

Awards & Recognitions: He has received Certificate of Appreciation for distinguished efforts in Children’s Hospital Quality Improvement Projects. He has done invaluable contribution as a committee member in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Nursing Program
