The comprehensive lactation management centre of Sri Ramachandra Medical Centre was opened today by Mr. V.R. Venkataachalam, Chancellor, Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research. Speaking about the centre, Dr. Uma Maheswari, HOD, Neonatology said it marks a monumental step in improving the health and well-being of newborns, particularly premature and critically ill infants. As doctors, we understand the vital role of breast milk in the early stages of life, providing essential nutrients, antibodies, and immune support that can significantly reduce the risk of infections and long term health issues. With this milk bank, we aim to provide safe, screened, and pasteurized donor milk to infants who cannot receive breast milk from their mothers. This initiative not only ensures that all babies have access to the best nutrition but also helps bridge the gap for mothers who may face challenges in breastfeeding.
The inauguration of the Human Milk Bank underscores our commitment to promoting infant health, supporting families, and empowering healthcare providers in their mission to give every newborn the best possible start in life.
This is a proud moment for our community and a crucial step in advancing neonatal care, she added.
