About the Department
The Central Laboratory at Sri Ramachandra Medical Centre is located on the 1st floor of the Shri. Ramasamy Udayar Block, occupying a fully air-conditioned space of 6,000 sq. ft. This advanced facility handles approximately 10,000 diagnostic tests daily, providing essential diagnostic services for patients.
The laboratory is equipped with a spacious blood collection area and dedicated sections for Biochemistry, Clinical Pathology, Hematology, and Microbiology. It houses state-of-the-art equipment, including fully automated biochemistry analyzers, cell counters, and automated culture identification and susceptibility systems. All samples are processed by skilled technicians and reviewed by authorized personnel, ensuring timely and accurate results.
Most of the equipment is linked to the Laboratory Information System (LIS) and integrated with the Hospital Information System (HIS), allowing test results to be instantly accessed by healthcare providers in wards and other patient care areas. The lab follows strict quality control measures and maintains both internal and external quality assurance protocols.
The Central Laboratory is accredited by the National Accreditation Board for Testing & Calibrating Laboratories (NABL) with Certificate No: M0107 since February 13, 2008. It has maintained continuous reaccreditation every two years with annual NABL surveillance. The staff undergo regular training to stay updated on the latest diagnostic advancements. Additionally, the laboratory hosts regular Continuing Medical Education (CME) programs covering new developments across diagnostic disciplines. Currently, 200 tests are accredited under NABL’s scope.
Clinical Focus
The laboratory offers a wide range of diagnostic tests, covering 190 different procedures across Clinical Biochemistry, Clinical Pathology, Hematology, Clinical Microbiology, Histopathology, Cytopathology, Immune Hematology, and Human Genetics.

The laboratory features cutting-edge equipment, fully integrated with the hospital’s information system to streamline diagnostics and reporting.

Outreach & Community Activities
The laboratory actively participates in rural health camps and provides diagnostic services at the Vayalanallur Primary Health Centre.
