About the Department

The Central Laboratory at Sri Ramachandra Medical Centre (SRMC) is a high-quality facility located on the first floor of the Shri Ramasamy Udayar Block. It covers about 6,000 square feet of air-conditioned space. The laboratory performs around 10,000 tests daily to provide doctors and patients with accurate and timely results.

The laboratory includes a large area for blood collection and separate sections for biochemistry, clinical pathology, hematology, and microbiology. It uses modern machines that automatically test blood, count cells, identify bacteria, and check how bacteria respond to medicines. Our skilled staff carefully handle all samples to ensure tests are done correctly and results are accurate.

Most of the equipment connects to the Laboratory Information System (LIS), which links to the Hospital Information System (HIS). This setup lets doctors and nurses quickly access test results from wards and patient areas. The laboratory follows strict quality controls and takes part in regular internal and external audits to maintain accuracy.

Since February 13, 2008, the Central Laboratory has held accreditation from the National Accreditation Board for Testing & Calibration Laboratories (NABL). Its certification (Certificate No: M0107) is reviewed every two years and inspected annually by NABL officials. Currently, around 200 tests are NABL-approved. Staff regularly attend training to stay updated on new diagnostic tools, and the laboratory runs education programs for ongoing learning.
